'Padmaavat' violence: Karni Sena chief arrested

Gurugram (Haryana) [India], Jan 27: Karni Sena chief Thakur Kushalpal was on Saturday arrested by the Haryana police in link with the incidents of violence during the release of movie 'Padmaavat'. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate the matter, read an official statement.

So far, 38 hooligans have been caught and sent to the judicial custody in connection with the matter. "24 miscreants were arrested in eight criminal cases and 14 miscreants were detained under section 107/151 CrPC as a preventive measure", the statement added.

Not only this but a school bus was hit by a group of men who were protesting against the release of the film in Haryana's Gurugram. The protesters threw stones at the bus, which was carrying students, teachers and other staff members of Gurugram's GD Goenka World School. The protesters also torched a state bus in Gurugram.

Padmaavat (formerly titled Padmavati), is a 2018 Indian epic period drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Deepika Padukone stars as Rani Padmavati, alongside Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh, and Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji. Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad, and Anupriya Goenka feature in supporting roles. Based on the epic poem Padmavat (1540) by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, the film narrates the story of Padmavati, a Rajput queen who committed jauhar (self-immolation) to protect herself from Khilji.
