Bhopal: After getting substandard rice and substandard wheat in several districts including Balaghat, Mandla, Chhindwara in Madhya Pradesh, the issue of sending 100 tonnes of stale gram chana to Chhattisgarh has come to light. The authorities have shifted the poor quality gram back to the godown after the investigation. A consignment of 100 tonnes of Gram being sent from Betul to Chhattisgarh has been found stale.
There has been major negligence on the part of the MP Logistic Warehouse Corporation in storing gram. This gram was to be distributed to the poor in Chhattisgarh. Vasudev Dabde, manager of Betul Ware House Corporation, said that the consignment had left for Chicholi. The contractor had complained about its quality, after which a sample of gram was taken. In the investigation, the quality was not up to the mark. It will now be handed over to NAFED. The truck driver said that "We were taking the consignment to Raipur. In the meantime, when we speculated any alteration in the packing, we stopped to get the weight done. When the packaging was opened, some grains were found stale".
In 2018, NAFED had procured gram at support price from several places including Chicholi in Betul district which was placed in government and private warehouses. In the crisis of pandemic, the central government was asked to give it to Chhattisgarh on its order to distribute gram to the poor.
