In view of the increasing number of cases of Covid in Punjab, Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday approved to fill 300 Adhoc posts in the Medical Education Department. 100-100 posts will be filled in the three government medical colleges. The CM ordered the department that graduate students should be recruited as Senior Residents on Adhoc. These appointments will be on the condition of passing the examination later.

The CM gave these instructions when Dr. KK Talwar, health advisor of the state government and former director of PGI, said that 100-100 staff need to be recruited in every medical college to handle serious patients of Covid by the Department of Medical Education. These include mainly senior resident doctors and assistant professors. The CM suggested that assistant professors be hired by walk-in selection to overcome the staff shortage immediately.

In a meeting convened through video conference to take stock of the situation of Covid, the Captain said that the Health Department had already been approved to fill 6000 posts of various levels. The Captain also asked to speed up the recruitment process at doctors, especially anesthesia specialists, nurses, lab technicians, ward boys, and other levels. The Chief Minister also approved the suggestion that 24 hours duty of a member of Anesthesia / Critical Care has been imposed to provide good treatment to patients in ICU.
