Visakhapatnam: 11 covid patients have died due to lack of oxygen at a government hospital in Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. All these patients were admitted to the ICU ward of Ruia Hospital in Tirupati in Chittoor district. Chittoor district collector Harinarayan said there was a slight drop in oxygen supply for five minutes at around 8 pm on Monday, which killed 11 patients undergoing covid treatment.

However, the families of the deceased alleged that the supply was disrupted for half an hour, not five minutes. Hospital superintendent Dr. Bharti has also admitted to the lack of oxygen supply. He said the incident was caused by a reduction in oxygen supply pressure. Although oxygen supply was later restored, 11 patients had lost their lives during this period.

The hospital admits and family members with their patients allege that the death toll is more than 11. The ward of Ruia Hospital where the accident took place is accompanied by an oxygen tank with a capacity of 10,000 liters. Even then, at 8 p.m., the supply of oxygen was drastically reduced. As oxygen was depleting, the patients became helpless. Although some were given oxygen with oxygen cylinders, it could not be enough for the most.
