11% of Karnataka police tested positive for COVID-19

One of the Karnataka's frontline warrior team,  Policemen till November 2, 11% of them have tested positive for the deadly coronavirus. Total number of over 80,000 police force are in Karnataka. Till November 2, 9,348 positive cases were reported, of which 8,052 police personnel recovered already and been discharged from hospital.The 9,348 cases, includes Bengaluru City police, 87 police personnel, including two women, has given their life to the deadly virus unfortunately.

In the state capital alone, so far 2,904 police personnel have tested positive, and 2,432 of them have recovered and discharged from the hospital, and 31 died due to Covid-19. “The State government has made Rs 30 lakh ex-gratia payment to each of the 84 cops who lost their lives on frontline Covid-19 duty. The families of three policemen, who we recently lost to the virus, will also receive the ex-gratia amount of Rs 30 lakh each. One family member of all our deceased frontline police personnel will be offered a government job,” told the Director General & Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) Praveen Sood.

DG&IGP added that the total death is 87 and of which majority was aged above 50 years, few people in very young age between 30 and 40 years also has given their life. In the past few weeks, there is a down trend in the numbers among the frontline police personnel. The number has come down to 20 to 30 per day, which was in 100s earlier in the month of July and August. The Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had announced ex-gratia of Rs 30 lakh to anganwadi workers, helpers, pourakarmikas and police personnel who die due to Covid-19, on April 30.
