11 states had unemployment rates higher than national average in 2017-18: NSSO report

The report of National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) has revealed that the unemployment rate in 11 states pipped the pan-Indian average of 6.1 per cent in 2017-19".

According to the Data accessed by Somesh Jha of the Business Standard shows that Tamil Nadu, Odisha,Punjab Uttarakhand, and Bihar joined the list of states with high unemployment numbers in 2017-18. Other states which continue to register alarming joblessness since 2011-12 are Haryana, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Assam, Jharkhand, and Odisha.

This report comes in the form of the follow-up to a previous report which asserted that joblessness in India piqued a 45-year high in the last two years.

While 11 states clocking such high unemployment figures, the central government has decided not to release the NSSO data citing 'factual or statistical errors'. At the time of the release of the first report in this regard in January of this year, rgovernment and Niti Aayog had claimed that they will release the NSSO data concerning joblessness by the end of March.

The latest report that has come to light reveals that 11 Indian states had unemployment rates higher than the National Average in 2017-18.

However, In an interview with Mirror Now, BJP spokesperson Gopal Agarwal claims that the NSSO data released by a publication is "inauthentic.
