Hyderabad: The lockdown has affected businesses across the country as well as the richest temple in the country. 1300 contract workers working at Tirupati Balaji temple in Andhra Pradesh, which has been closed since March 20, have now been thrown out. The agreement of these employees ended on April 30, after which the temple administration has refused to renew the contract from May 1.

In fact, the Tirupati Balaji temple management has forbidden 1300 employees working on contract from 1 May. The temple administration said that work is closed due to the lockdown, so now the contracts of these 1300 employees will not be extended beyond April 30. The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Trust operates three guesthouses namely Vishnu Nivasam, Srinivasam and Madhavam.

All the 1300 evacuees were employed in these guest houses for many years. YV Subba Reddy, head of Tirupati Balaji temple, said that all the guesthouses were closed due to the lockdown, due to which the contract of these employees was not extended. Regular employees are also not given any work during this period. TTD Trust spokesperson T Ravi says all decisions have been taken in accordance with the law. Due to the closure of work, the employees have to take a decision.
