The day of 15 August is recorded in golden letters in Indian history. Our country celebrates Independence Day on 15 August. It is a national festival for more than 138 crore people. Now there is less than a month left for August 15.

Mahatma Gandhi, who played an important role in the independence of India, did not attend the celebration of independence on 15 August 1947. Mahatma Gandhi was in Noakhali, Bengal, thousands of kilometres away from New Delhi where communal violence took place.

- Every year on this day the PM of the country hoists the tricolour from the Red Fort. But the tricolour was hoisted from the Red Fort for the first time on August 16, not 15.

- Many historians also believed that the British officer Lord Mountbatten, who was the last Viceroy of India, considered the date of August 15 to be auspicious and hence he chose this date to make India independent.

- The country's first PM Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru gave his first speech to the country after independence between Abhijeet Muhurta (11:51 PM to 12:39 AM). There was a conclave as soon as the speech was over.

The announcement regarding the independence of India was made by Pandit Nehru, the first PM of the country. The meeting of its fifth session was held by the Constituent Assembly of India at 11 am on August 14, one day before Independence Day, in the Constitution Hall in New Delhi (present capital) and headed by Dr Rajendra Prasad, the first President of the country.
