Bhopal: Congress, which is looking forward to returning to power in the state before the assembly by-elections in Madhya Pradesh, has suffered another major setback. MLA Sumitra Kasdekar from Nepanagar Assembly seat has resigned from the post of Member of Legislative Assembly. The number of Congress MLAs in the House reduced to 90. After the resignation of Sumitra, 26 assembly seats have become vacant in the state.

Of these 24 seats are vacant due to the resignation of Congress MLAs, while the remaining two seats are vacant due to the death of two MLAs. Significantly, on July 12, Congress MLA Pradyuman Singh Lodhi resigned from the membership of Congress party and Vidhan Sabha from Malhara assembly seat. He joined the BJP. Earlier in the month of March this year, Jyotiraditya Scindia, along with 22 MLAs close to him, declared a revolt against the Congress. After which CM Kamal Nath's government toppled and Kamal Nath had to resign from the post of CM.

After this, Scindia joined the BJP. A few days later, rebel MLAs also joined BJP. However, no information has been revealed in relation to what will be the next step of Sumitra Kasdekar. But it is believed that she can also join BJP.
