New Delhi: 16.7 lakh people have died in India in 2019 due to pollution and poisonous air. This information is given in a report released by The Lancet. According to The Lancet, pollution killed more people in India in 2019 than in 2017. According to the report, in 2019, 1.67 million deaths have been caused by pollution, which is 18% of the total deaths. That is, in India, 18% of the deaths in 2019 were due to pollution.

Looking at the 2017 figures, in that year, 12.4 lakh people died due to pollution in India, which was 12.5% of the total deaths in the country. According to a report by The Lancet, the study found that pollution also led to many types of diseases, which led to the death of people, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory infection, lung cancer, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, neonatal disorder and cataracts.

Pollution has also hit the economy of India. In the year 2019, due to the deaths and diseases caused by air pollution, India's GDP i.e. Gross Domestic Product was a loss of $ 36.8 billion which is about 1.4% of the total GDP. According to the Lancet report, Uttar Pradesh has suffered the most due to pollution at the state level. While Delhi has suffered the most in terms of per capita income.
