As per Minister for Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu, 1,837 people are presently taking shelter in 110 evacuation centres around Fiji as a result of floods and heavy rain brought on by tropical cyclone Cody.

According to Seruiratu, 1,045 people have taken shelter in 76 institutions in the island nation's western region, while 553 have sought refuge in 28 facilities in the country's centre region. Seven of the island nation's biggest rivers are said to have overflowed their banks.

The Kings and Queens Roadways, the two major highways on Viti Levu's main island, are still closed at various areas due to flooding.  On Sunday, a 35-year-old man was swept away by high currents while trying to cross a river near Tavua, around 91 kilometres from Nadi, Fiji's third biggest city.

Cyclone Cody is moving away from Fiji, according the Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS), but flash flooding is likely in the next days owing to rain. The Pacific cyclone season runs from November to April every year.
