A Taliban official said 10 madrasa students were among the 19 people who died in the blast.

According to reports, the madrasa where the blast took place was built recently. The attack comes after the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) recently called off its month-long ceasefire. The TTP has cited the new military operation against its fighters as the reason for the end of the ceasefire. According to the TTP leadership, the Pakistani army is carrying out military operations against its fighters in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Lucky Marwat district. It was only after the ceasefire was withdrawn that a TTP fidayeen bomber in Balochistan province blasted himself targeting a truck of policemen going to protect the polio team. Three people were killed and 23 others injured in the suicide attack.
