New Delhi: Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, who has been awarded a life prison term by the Delhi High Court in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, is likely to surrender before the Karkardooma Court or Tihar jail on Monday. Worth mention here On December 17, the Delhi High Court had overturned the release granted to Kumar by a trial court and awarded him a life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5 lakh in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case.

It may be noted that HS Phoolka, one of the petitioners in 1984 anti-Sikh riots case asserrted that Kumar might try to form more disturbances around the court to use as a justification not to surrender and ask for an extension.

"I request 1984 Sikh genocide victims not to go to the court tomorrow. He has not got any relief from the Supreme Court. So, he has to surrender," Phoolka stated on Sunday.

"He simply has to go to the court tomorrow and surrender. If he does not do that, then on January 1 the police will have to take him in custody and send him to Tihar Jail. This is a very big victory for the entire nation, as a mass murderer is going to be punished after years," Phoolka  as saying  was quoted by news agency ANI on Sunday.

The case relates to massacring of five members of a Sikh family in Delhi Cantonment during 1984 anti-Sikh riots in the consequences of the murder of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

In the summer of 1947, during partition, a number of people were killed and 37 years later Delhi was the witness of a similar tragedy. The prime accused enjoyed political patronage and escaped trial as  the court had said while awarding life  prison term to Kumar.
