Ballia, Today, two children drowned in river Ganga at Pachrukhia Ghat in Haldi area, said police. According to police, "The incident took place when Sonu 6 year old and Ajit 7 year old slipped into deep water while taking bath in the river".
While Sonu's body was fished out from the river by locals, search is on to find the other child, police added.
Approximately 90% of drownings take place in freshwater (rivers, lakes and swimming pools) and 10% in seawater.
Drownings in other fluids are rare, and often relates to industrial accidents.
