Will India host the 2023 Cricket World Cup? Tax dispute between BCCI and ICC

New Delhi: A few days later the new year 2023 will begin and the ODI World Cup is to be played this year itself. India has to host this World Cup, but something has happened that endangers India's hosting. Actually, a conflict has started between the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the tax dispute and this dispute between the two can snatch the hosting of the World Cup from India.

According to media reports, the ICC has bluntly asked the BCCI to arrange tax exemption from the Government of India for organizing the ODI World Cup 2023. However, this is difficult to conduct as the Government of India does not give this type of exemption for any type of event. Even when India hosted the T20 World Cup in the year 2016, there was a dispute between ICC and BCCI on this issue. At that time BCCI could not get this exemption from the Government of India and in the end, it had to pay Rs 190 crores of its share to ICC.

Now the same situation has arisen again, as per ICC's policy, the board of the country hosting the ICC event has to arrange tax exemption in coordination with its government. If BCCI is not able to do this for the 2023 ODI World Cup, then it will have to give its share of Rs 900 crore to ICC. It has been told in the reports that the BCCI is not ready for this, in such a situation, if this type of situation arises, then the Indian board can go to court against the ICC. Apart from this, if the tax issue is not resolved and ICC does not get its share, then it can also consider changing the host. In such a situation, BCCI will try to solve this issue soon.
