Chamoli accident: Rescue operation continues even after 5 days, 205 people still missing

Chamoli: Rescue operation continues on the fifth day of the glacier bursting incident in Uttarakhand. The state government said that the number of people who died in this tragedy has increased to 35, while 204 people are still missing. The rescue operation is on to evacuate about 35 people trapped in the two-kilometre long Tapovan tunnel.

The NDRF team is also taking the help of its search dogs to evacuate people trapped in the tunnel. The state government said that 10 dead bodies have been identified from the dead. The remaining bodies are yet to be identified. The state secretariat has said that two employees of Rishiganga Company who were earlier reported missing have been found to have reached their home safely. ITPB DIG Aparna Kumar said, 'There is a possibility of some more people getting trapped in the tunnel.'

He said that National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) is conducting vertical drilling to locate people. ITPB personnel are constructing the Jhula Bridge in the villages whose contact has been lost in Chamoli district due to floods. These suspension bridges will be used to carry rations from one side to the other.
