23 Syrians are arrested in Lebanon for illegal entry

According to police, 23 Syrians have been detained in Lebanon for illegally entering the country.The Syrians captured on Friday in the northern district of Akkar have been submitted to judicial bodies for investigation and other legal procedures.Lebanon's security services have been putting forth a lot of effort to combat Syrian human smuggling.

President Michel Aoun has asked the international community to ensure the safe return of Syrian refugees to their homeland, stating that Lebanon is in the midst of an unprecedented financial crisis and cannot carry the weight of further refugees on its own.

According to UN figures, Lebanon presently hosts 865,530 registered Syrian refugees, with a total population of 1.5 million Syrians in Lebanon.
