Dehradun: Amid the ongoing political crisis in Goa, Uttarakhand has also seen a split in Congress. Three senior Congress leaders in the BJP-ruled state on Monday resigned from the party's primary membership and joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Uttarakhand Congress spokesperson Rajendra Prasad Raturi, state Mahila Congress vice-president Kamlesh Raman and party's social media advisor Kuldeep Chaudhary joined AAP in Delhi in the presence of Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia.
Uttarakhand AAP unit president Jot Singh Bisht said Sisodia expressed happiness over his participation and said that his arrival will strengthen the party. These leaders have cited the growing factionalism in Congress as the reason for their resignation even after the defeat in the assembly elections. On hearing the news of the resignation of the Congress leaders, the party veterans held a meeting at the residence of former Cabinet Minister Harak Singh Rawat. During this time, concerns were expressed over the internal situation in the party. However, former CM and party general secretary Harish Rawat stayed away from it.
On Sunday, out of the 11 Congress MLAs in Goa, five - Michael Lobo, Digambar Kamat, Kedar Naik, Rajesh Faldesai and Deliala Lobo - had lost contact. The Congress later removed Lobo from the post of leader of the opposition in the 40-member assembly. State Congress chief Amit Patkar had said that the party's MLAs have gone up to seven, two more than Sunday's count.
