3 Human loss so far in Tamil Nadu, Nivar

Tamil Nadu state government sources, on Thursday, has informed that three persons lost their lives and three more have sustained injuries due to Nivar cyclone and the officials are involved in the process of collecting more details about the damages and loss of lives due to the cyclone.  

Government Sources also said that 101 houses including 89 huts were damaged, 26 cattle died and 380 trees have uprooted. 93030 men, 94105 women and 40182 children in total, 2.27 lakh persons have been lodged in 3,085 rescue and relief camps. Apart from 921 permanent medical camps there are 234 mobile camps functioning in the cyclone affected areas.

The cautious pre-emptive move by the state government and the prompt messages from the weather offices have received appreciation from several quarters. The assembly election scheduled just a few months away, the government, already struggling to curb the rising coronavirus cases, is walking a difficult line with Nivar. IMD has informed the rainfall measurement, Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu recorded the highest rainfall at 24.6 cm, followed by 23.7 cm in Puducherry from 8.30 PM on Wednesday till 2.30 am on Thursday, Chennai 8.9 cm during the same period.
