Three people lost their lives and six others were injured during a clash with security forces in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir. The incident occurred as protesters attacked paramilitary Rangers in Muzaffarabad, the capital of the disputed region. This violence erupted amidst ongoing protests over skyrocketing prices of wheat flour and electricity bills.

Reports indicate that paramilitary Rangers, tasked with maintaining order, were targeted by demonstrators as they attempted to leave the area. Instead of taking the Brarkot route, the convoy opted for Kohala, a decision that led to confrontations with protesters along the way. Rocks were hurled at the convoy near Shorran da Nakka village, prompting security forces to respond with tear gas and gunfire.

Muzaffarabad's Divisional Commissioner confirmed three fatalities from the clashes and reported six others sustaining injuries. Despite the government's approval of a substantial subsidy aimed at addressing protesters' grievances, tensions remained high. The subsidy includes reduced rates for wheat flour and electricity, but demonstrators, led by the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), are demanding further concessions, including fair electricity pricing and an end to elite privileges.

Following the subsidy announcement, protests temporarily ceased, with JAAC leaders awaiting formal notification. However, violence erupted before a final decision was made, resulting in casualties and widespread unrest. JAAC eventually called off the protests after the government purportedly agreed to meet their demands.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the violence and urged all parties to seek peaceful resolutions. Similarly, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized dialogue and restraint to address the escalating tensions. Despite these appeals, anger and tension remain palpable in Muzaffarabad and other parts of Pakistan-administered Kashmir.
