New Delhi: The total number of patients infected with the coronavirus variant of omicron in India has increased to 143 last Saturday. 12 cases have come from Telangana, six from Karnataka, four from Kerala while eight more patients have been confirmed in Maharashtra. Central and State officials say that so far omicron cases have been reported in 11 States and Union Territories in Maharashtra (48), Delhi (22), Rajasthan (17) and Karnataka (14), Telangana (20), Gujarat (7), Kerala (11), Andhra Pradesh (1), Chandigarh (1), Tamil Nadu (1) and West Bengal (1).

With the advent of 12 more new cases of omicrons in Telangana, the number of infected with the new variant has gone up to 20. In fact, a bulletin of the Health Department of Telangana has given information and says that out of 12 new patients, two came from "risk countries" announced by the Centre while 10 came from other countries. However, the report of samples of three patients is still awaited. On the other hand, six more cases of omicron variant have been reported in Karnataka. Out of the six cases of infection, five cases were reported in two educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada district.

The number of omicron cases in the state has now increased to 14. Karnataka Health Minister K Sudhakar recently tweeted. In this tweet, he wrote, 'Today two clusters of Covid have been reported from two educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada: Cluster One: 14 cases (four of which are of Omicron). Cluster two: 19 cases (one is of omicron). A UK passenger has also been found infected with omicron.'
