Beijing: China's capital Beijing has had a severe sandstorm for the first time in the past few decades. On Monday, China's capital Beijing was completely covered with dust. It is reported that due to strong winds, the storm arose from the gobi's desert and dust washes away in most parts of China. Due to this, 400 flights have been cancelled in Beijing.

Earlier on Sunday, a massive thunderstorm occurred in China's neighbouring country of Mongolia, after which 341 people are reported missing. Several flights have been cancelled in Hohhot, the capital of Inner Mongolia. The Gobi desert is very vast and barren which stretches from west China to South Mongolia. The Chinese Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert stating that the dust storms are extended from Inner Mongolia to China's Gansu, Shaanxi and Hebei, which are located around Beijing.

The air quality of Beijing has reached very low due to the dust storms. The index has reached a maximum level of 500 on Monday morning. The level of PM10 has increased in a very dangerous manner in many districts. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the level of PM10 daily should not exceed 50 micrograms. In fact, PM2.5, the level of lung damage particles has also reached over 300 micrograms. In China, this standard is 35 micrograms. Such dust storms are not unusual in the capital Beijing in this season of the year.
