Flood in Pakistan, 39 people dead, many areas submerged

Islamabad: In many areas of Pakistan, 39 people have died due to heavy rain and floods. There were heavy rains in Karachi due to which the roads were submerged, business activities were disrupted and normal life was badly affected. Giving information, an official of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said that at least 16 people, including two children and a woman, were killed and eight were injured in the floods in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province after heavy rains.

The official said that due to the floods on Thursday night, eight people died in the Upper Kohistan district of the province, two in six Shangla district in Swat. 40 houses have also been damaged in these areas. In the Shahgram Tirat area of Swat district, floodwater entered houses, where six people died and eight people were injured. PDMA Director General Pervez Khan Relief Affairs Secretary reached the affected areas to inspect the rescue operations.

Khan said that rescue work is going on fast in the affected areas, people are being sent to safe places. CM KP Mahmood Khan has expressed concern over the loss of life and property. CM hails from Swat region. Since Tuesday, 23 people died due to heavy rains in Karachi. According to a leading media daily, the Sindh government had declared a public holiday on Friday.
