Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee, who became CM for the third time in a row after the election noise in West Bengal, has come into action mode. The government has made major changes in the police department amid the ongoing clashes with the central government over chief secretary Shri Alapan Bandyopadhyay, IAS. The government led by CM Mamata Banerjee has transferred 55 officers of the police department.

Of the 55 officers transferred, 52 are Indian Police Service officers. Three officers belong to the State Police Service. Praveen Tripathi is said to be the biggest name among those officers. Praveen Tripathi has been made the DIG of Malda. Medinipur DIG Kunal Agarwal has been sent to compulsory waiting by the government. The Special Task Force (STF) of bengal police has also received a new DIG. Deep Narayan Goswami has been appointed as the DIG of STF. Praveen Tripathi's name came up for discussion when the convoy of Bharatiya Janata Party national president JP Nadda was attacked in December last year before the Bengal elections.

The Central government had ordered Praveen Tripathi to be sent to sashastra seema bal (SSB) on deputation following the attack on Nadda's convoy in South 24 Parganas district. However, CM Mamata Banerjee had openly come out in support of Tripathi and refused to discharge him.
