New Delhi: The availability of oxygen in hospitals has come down. As per the guidelines given by PM Modi to increase this availability, in-principle approval has been accorded for setting up 551 dedicated medical oxygen generation plants. Recently, PM has directed that these plants should be commissioned at the earliest. He says the plants will give a major boost to the availability of oxygen at the district level. Not only that, the fund for the same will be given from PM Care.

You must be aware that the PM Cares Fund had allocated about Rs 201 crore earlier this year for setting up an additional 162 medical oxygen plants in the country. As per the information received recently, the basic objective behind setting up PSA oxygen generation plants in government hospitals of district headquarters is to further strengthen the public health system. At the same time, it is to be ensured that each of these hospitals has a captive oxygen generation facility.

The facility of in-house captive oxygen caters to the day-to-day medical oxygen needs of these hospitals and the district. Apart from all this, liquid therapy oxygen (LMO) will serve as a "top up" for captive oxygen generation. Such a system is said to go a long way in ensuring that government hospitals in districts do not face sudden disruption in oxygen supply
