Damoh: In the raids conducted on liquor trader Shankar Rai and his brothers in Damoh, MP, the Income Tax Department has received unaccounted wealth and tax evasion. An amount of Rs 3 crore has been received near Shankar Rai's brother Sanjay Rai and Rs 2.5 crore with Kamal Rai. Apart from this, jewelery worth Rs 3 crore has been found. The officers of Income Tax Department have started investigation after recovering the documents.

According to Munmun Sharma, additional commissioner of the same income tax department, the Rai brothers had sensed the raid. That is why Rs.3 crores were packed in plastic bags and hidden in the water tank. Income Tax department officials had to get into the water tank and seize cash from these plastic bags. About 100 Income Tax officers in 50 vehicles raided the Rai brothers at around 5 am on Thursday. 6 crore in cash, 3 kg gold, Jaguar, Audi, Landrover etc.

The same papers are being examined to ascertain from where the Rai brothers had earned unaccounted property and stole taxes. According to reports, the Rai brothers have a business of liquor as well as hoteling and transportation. They have several buses and petrol pumps are also operated in and around Damoh.
