Patna: Former district councillor Vishwajit Singh alias Rintu Singh was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Purnia on Thursday, less than two months after his murder. Neeraj Jha was killed just 500 metres from the Kehat police station in the district. According to eyewitnesses, two bikers opened fire on Jha, who was in a car, wearing masks and helmets.

Jha fell on the road after being shot from behind. The attackers then shot him in the chest. After committing the crime, they made sure he was dead and fled the spot firing in the air. Anil Kumar Singh, SHO, Khazanchi Hat police station, Purnia, said, "The deceased was hit by two bullets in the chest and back. He died on the spot.''

In the complaint given to the same police, the family of the deceased alleged that the criminals involved in the murder of Rintu Singh were involved in Jha's murder. Rintu Singh's wife had levelled the allegations against Leshi Singh, a cabinet minister in the Nitish Kumar government. She had also lodged an FIR against the nephew of Leshi Singh. On November 12, 2021, Rintu Singh was shot dead near Sarsi police station in the district. His wife alleges that Leshi Singh had threatened him to contest the election of District Councilor of Purnia.
