Shimla: Several districts including Himachal Pradesh's capital Shimla have once again received heavy snowfall. The snowfall on Monday has stopped traffic on 774 roads in several parts of the state including Shimla. In the upper Shimla area, even essential items like bread, milk and newspaper were spared or arrived late.
At the same time, these roads witnessed a lot of slippages and five people were reported lying lost their lives in two accidents. On Monday evening, five family members, including two women and a child, lost their lives when a car fell down a road in Shangoli village near Sarahan. Moreover, in Hassan Valley also, a car went out of control near Kufri and fell into a ditch. Two persons were injured in the accident. Office goers also had to work hard as the roads were covered with snow.
Out of the 774 roads in the State where traffic has been stopped, 261 are in Shimla. In addition, 170 roads are in Lahaul-Spiti and 139 are in Kullu. Not only this but 85 roads have also been closed in Chamba, 60 Kinnaur and 51 in Mandi. Meanwhile, the power supply was also stalled for a long time at many places due to the failure of 2,360 transformers across the state due to snowfall.
