As per the latest reports, CT-scan is quite common procedure that is used to diagnose issues relating to the brain. It helps to detect brain tumors as well as brain heamorrhage. The use of this Computed Tomography technique has increased many folds in the medical field.
Well, the procedure has definitely made it easier to diagnose the disorders related with the brain but, studies suggest that the radiations incident on the brain during the process are really dangerous and can cause some serious issues to the brain. Hence, during the process, it must be made sure that you are well protected against the radiations. Children must be majorly protected against these radiations since they may develop malignancies and also be ause they have enough time to show the ill effects of radiations.
The radiations are radioactive and hence can cause Leukemia or even brain tumors that are examples of the most severe malignancy that may be caused in both children as well as adults.
The recent studies revealed that cases of cancer have increased to about 1.5 times more than what was expected. All the types of brain tumors including the malignant and nonmalignant ones, depended Alon the amount and dose of the radiations.
It has also been postulated that cancer caused in the brain, damages the entire body since brain is the director of the entire body and controls all it's functions.
A scientist involved in the study reported, "Epidemiological studies of cancer risks from low doses of medical radiation are challenging, nevertheless, our careful evaluation of the data and evidence from other studies indicates that CT-related radiation exposure increases brain tumor risk. Careful justification of pediatric CT scans and dose optimization, as done in many hospitals, are essential to minimize risks."
