Center signs mandate of death penalty for rapists of minors

On Saturday, the Centre has approved the ordinance of the death penalty to the rapists of children. The age of the minor victim, decided by the Center is 12-year-old. According to ANI, following a meeting of the Union Cabinet, the government cleared the amendment in the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

This step is taken in the sequence of the gang-rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district. Earlier the Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi had expressed her ministry's aim to improve the POCSO. This amendment is made to make provision for the death penalty in such cases.

Leading to the report submitted by the Centre, while responding to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Alakh Alok Srivastava in the Supreme Court, seeking the maximum sentence of the death penalty to those offenders involved in the rape and brutal murder of children between the age group of 0 to 12.

Earlier today, the city of Madhya Pradesh, Indore, has witnessed a brutal rape of the four-year-old girl child, done by her realtive. She was obsinely been raped and murder after the accuse and the victim's mother had under gone a fight. The accuse had done all this early in the morning when the girls family was fallen asleep.
