While still in the hangover of the success of Padmavat and debut in Hollywood, Deepika Padukone is set to be back in Bollywood with a film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj.
The movie is based on the life of late Sapna Didi. Sapna Didi, also known as Ashraf Khan, was a mafia queen in the 1980s. Irrfan Khan will share the screen with Deepika Padukone. Both of them have previously worked together in Shoojit Sircar-directed 2015 film 'Piku'.
“Deepika has already started the preparation for her role of a Mafia queen and she is quite particular that she gets the tonality and body language as close to the late Sapna Didi who was once a terror for other gangsters. The shoot will begin by early March in Mumbai. After ‘Padmaavat’, her fans will love to see her in a whole new avatar of a lady don and hence she is really working meticulously to strike the right chord,” informed an internal source.
The film was to be directed by Honey Trehan earlier but it was later when some creative differences arose, and Vishal Bhardwaj stepped in to helm the film.
The film is titled as ‘Rani’ with Deepika playing the titular role and Irrfan will play Deepika’s on-screen husband.
