New Delhi [India], Jan 25: The Delhi High Court on today refused to entertain a request seeking to quash of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) certificate given to film 'Padmaavat'. The state high court has directed the petitioner to approach the Supreme Court. 

The petition was registered by General Secretary of Johar Smriti Sansthan, Chittorgarh, Bhanwar Singh. The petition had sought to quash the certificate issued by CBFC for allowing the exhibition of Sanjay Bhansali's magnum-opus. It also sought an appropriate order for declaring section 5C of the Cinematography Act 1952 to be in violation of article 14of the constitution of India.

Padmaavat (formerly titled Padmavati), is a 2018 Indian epic period drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Deepika Padukone stars as Rani Padmavati, alongside Shahid Kapoor as Maharaja Rawal Ratan Singh, and Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji. Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad, and Anupriya Goenka feature in supporting roles. Based on the epic poem Padmavat (1540) by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, the film narrates the story of Padmavati, a Rajput queen who committed Jauhar to protect herself from Khilji.

With a production budget of 200 crores (US$31 million), Padmaavat is one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. Initially scheduled for release on 1 December 2017, Padmavati release was indefinitely delayed due to numerous controversies. In December, the Central Board of Film Certification approved the film with five modifications, which includes the addition of multiple disclaimers and a change in title.Padmaavat was re-scheduled for release on 25 January 2018 in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D formats, making it the first Indian film to be released in IMAX 3D
