One of the known personality of the Indian politics George Fernandes is turning out 88 years old on 3rd June. He is a politician, Indian trade unionist, journalist, agriculturist and member of Rajya Sabha from Bihar. As being in the profession of a politician it is a trend to get involved in controversies, so how can Mr Fernandes be intact from all such.

Mr Fernandes during his entire political career was involved in many controversies. Let us have a look back to his entire controversial journey since 1949.

 

Support to the secessionist group - before joining the Vajpayee government in 1997, he organised a controversial public convention of pro-LTTE elements in New Delhi. In July 1998, he reportedly stopped the Indian Navy from intercepting ships suspected of carrying illegal arms to Tamil guerrilla groups. 

CIA funding - He allegedly sought to obtain funding from the US Central Intelligence Agency and the French government to organize underground sabotage activities.

Tehelka Scandal - He was caught taking bribe along with his companions by an investigative journalist of Tehelka journal.

Barak Missile scandal- He was registered FIR for purchasing 7 billion 1 Barak system from Israel in 2000.

As Defence Minister - He made a controversy for his statement as a defence minister. He stated during Pokhran nuclear test that “China is India’s number one enemy”. for which he later apologised in front of media.

This is all we can say achievements of his in his long political career. Though he is retired we still remember him because of all these. expressing our gratitude towards him we wish him a very happy birthday in advance.
