Wearing black specs for 46 years: Karunanidhi had eye surgery in John Hopkins Hospital of America in 1971. Since then, he wore black glasses for 46 years. His partner in the DMK and MG Ramachandran, who later founded the AIADMK, used to wear black glasses. Karunanidhi had left wearing glasses on the advice of doctors only in 2017. In exchange for this, they were imported glasses which were slightly tinted. The new glasses were finalized after 40 days.
Jayalalitha's antagonistic and popular arrest: Jayalalitha and Karunanidhi were were in a cold war. An example of the conflict between the two was found during Karunanidhi's arrest. On June 30, 2001, at 2 pm, the police had arrested Karunanidhi from his house. This arrest took place in the case of corruption in the construction of flyovers in Chennai. Politics and controversy: Karunanidhi once said about the Ram Sethu project, "Some people say that 17 million years ago there was a person named Ram, who had built Ram Setu without touching him. Who is this Ram? From which engineering college he graduated, does anyone have any proof?"
Karunanidhi accepted in April 2009 that Chief Prabhakaran, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), was his good friend. The LTTE had killed former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Karunanidhi's Hindi protest was well known. After the Narendra Modi government came to power, he said, "The battle of language is not over yet. The anti-Hindi movement is recorded in the pages of history. Can we forget the assurances of Nehru that unless non-Hindi speaking people want English, English will be the official language of the country."
