The news of the demise of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi reached his native village Thirukkuvalai and there was a wave of mourning and a large number of people started reaching their ancestral home. The villagers offered a wreath on the photograph of the DMK president at his residence.

Karunanidhi was born on June 3, 1924, in this village and spent his childhood here. In the middle of the village, the blue and white house of his mother now has the statue of his mother and his parents have two libraries in the name of Muthuilar Noolagam and Anjugam Padipagam. 

This house has a huge collection of rare pictures of youthful young Karunanidhi. Karunanidhi received primary education from the village Panchayat Union Middle School. He had ordered to set up a primary health centre and an industrial training institute with better facilities in his school. 

When Karunanidhi was chief minister during 2006-11, he came to his village twice. He had come to the village for the last time as the Chief Minister in 2009. The name 'Karunanidhi' is the pride of this village, and after his death, residents immersed in gum feel that they have lost their identity.

Karunanidhi, 94, was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, who was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for the last 11 days, breathed last at 6:10 pm at Kaveri Hospital in Chennai.
