Maruti becomes the biggest passenger vehicle exporter, overtakes Hyundai

The first half of this financial year, Maruti Suzuki India became India's largest passenger vehicle exporter by overtaking Hyundai Motor India Ltd. Lying behind Volkswagen and General Motors, Hyundai is now fourth in this category. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data, during April-September this year, Maruti exported 57,300 passenger vehicle units, which is 6 percent higher than the corresponding period of last year. 

In April-September last year, Maruti exported 54,008 units. Having been the largest exporter for a long time, the Hyundai Motor India Ltd has imported 44,585 units this year compared to 63,014 units last year. Its imports fall by 29.25 percent. In the case of passenger vehicles exported from India, Hyundai has now lagged behind Volkswagen and General Motors India.

In the first half of the current fiscal, Volkswagen India's exports grew by 16.92 percent to 50,410 units. Volkswagen is currently the second largest exporter after Maruti. In the same period last year, its export was 43,114 units. At the same time, General Motors is at the third position in this list. 

On May 18 this year, General Motors had decided to stop the sale of trains in India. In the first half of the current financial year, the company exported 45,222 units this year with an increase of 47.72 percent compared to 30,613 units last year.

Maruti's Dzire sales stood at 31,427 units in September, according to latest data from SIAM's organization of Vehicle Manufacturers, while Alto's sales stood at 23,830 units. In August, for the first time, Desire left behind the Alto. Sales of DZire were 26,140 units, while Alto's sales stood at 21,521 units. Alto has been the best-selling car in the country for nearly a decade.
