PM Modi and President Ramnath Kovind greeted the nation on the auspicious ocassion of Janmashtami.PM Modi said, "Janmashtami greetings to everyone, " on his twitter handle. While President Ramnath Kovind wrote on the micro-blogging website, "Greetings and good wishes to fellow citizens on the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami. The teachings of Lord Krishna have a universal message - Nishkam Karma. May this festival inspire us to follow the path of virtue and righteousness in thought, word and deed ."

Janmashtami is one of the main auspicious Hindu festivals which is celebrated every year on the Ashtami of Bhadon month. It is believed that Lord Krishna was born on this day, therefore Hindu devotees celebrated this day with great enthusiasm and organize a number of events. It is beloved that Krishna is the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu who took birth to defeat the evil. Krishna killed his Maternal uncle Kansa ( a demon) to eradicated the evilness. This festival delivers the message of defeating evil and spreading love and harmony.
