More than four-fifths of Indian has faith to the government, but, fascinatingly, the majority also wants military rule and despotism, a report of Pew survey said on Monday.

"In India, where the economy has grown on average by 6.9% since 2012, 85% (of people) have reliance on their national government," Pew Research said in a report based on its survey ‘trust on governance among key countries’

According to the report of the survey, 55% of Indians are in favor of despotism in one way or the other. In fact, more than one-fourth (27%) want a "strong leader".

A global median of 26% say a system in which a strong leader has ability to take decisions without "interference from parliament or the courts" would be a "good way of governing". Almost seven in 10 (71%) say it would be an awful governance.

India is one of the three countries in the Asia Pacific Zone where people have faith in technocracy. "Asian-Pacific publics usually back rule by experts, mainly people in Vietnam (67%), India (65%) and the Philippines (62%)," it said. Only Australians are remarkably cautious, as 57% say it would be an awful way to govern.

According to the Pew survey, approximately half of both Indians (53%) and South Africans (52%) say the military rule would be a good thing for their countries. But in the general public, older people (those aged 50 and above) are least encouraging of the idea, and they are the ones who either experienced the resist to establish the democratic rule or are the direct offshoots of those democratic pioneers, Pew report said.
