One-Nation-One- Election became a great issue in the country. Where the ruling government want to bring the rule in the country there are many who are opposing the move for one or other reason. But a well-known face of Indian Cinema and now of politics too supported the move while saying the decision will save money and time.
Rajinikanth, the actor who recently made his debut in politics with his own party tweeted that “I support One Nation One Election. This will save money and time.”
One-Nation-One- Election theory is a simultaneous election process which is highly appreciated by PM Modi’s government and. The recommendation for the same was firstly made by Election Commission in 1983.
Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad once stated that “Frequent elections lead to the expenditure of public money, posting of officers from outside and governance suffers. Our democracy is 70 years old there should be some stability in the electoral process. Let's await recommendations of law commission.”
Recently, Nitish Kumar, the Bihar Chief Minister also nodded to the theory while stating the majority as the major obstacle in its way which would be achieved till 2024 only.
Notably, in April 2018 only the commission remarked that Lok Sabha and state Assemblies election can be done simultaneously in two phases from 2019 onward but before that minimum two provisions of the constitution need amendment which will eventually need a majority of the states.
In 1999, BP Jeevan Reddy, then Law Commission’s head also observed that “We must go back to the situation where the elections to Lok Sabha and all the Legislative Assemblies are held at once.”
