NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court is expected to pronounce its judgment on Thursday on a set of pleas seeking an independent investigation into the alleged mystifying death of special CBI judge BH Loya, during the hearing the high-profile Sohrabuddin Sheikh forged encounter case.

On December 1, 2014, Judge Loya had allegedly died of cardiac arrest in Nagpur. Here he had gone to attend the marriage ceremony of a colleague's daughter.

Worth mention here the bench consists of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud had on March 16 reserved the judgment on the pleas.

The Maharashtra government put its arguments in the top court that all pleas seeking an independent investigation into Loya's death were motivated and aimed at targeting "one individual" in the pretext of upholding the regulation of law.

It had come down profoundly on alleged charges of bullying and browbeating of judges in the apex court by some activist lawyers in the Loya case and said that the judiciary and judicial officers need to be protected from such averments.

Meanwhile, those seeking an independent investigation into the matter had referred to the series of events to draw attention to a fair probe was needed to rule out any polluted play in the death.

Loya's death issue had come under ruckus in November last year after media reports quoting his sister had fuelled misgiving about the situations surrounding it and its connection to the Sohrabuddin case. But on January 14 Loya's son had said in Mumbai that his father had died of natural causes.
