Supreme Court to resume hearing on Ayodhya case today

New Delhi [India], July 6 (NT): The Supreme Court of India will resume hearing on the Babri Masjid-Ram Temple land clash case on Friday.

Earlier on May 17the apex court adjourned the case, ruling the next hearing to be after the end summer vacation.

The top court is hearing the 13 appeals lodged against the 2010 verdict of the Allahabad High Court that mandated a three-way division of the disputed land in Ayodhya.

SC earlier dismissed all the 32 intervention petitions, including pleas of filmmakers Shyam Benegal and Aparna Sen, and journalist Teesta Setalvad, in the case.

During a previous hearing, a bench, consist of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra, Justices Ashok Bhushan and Abdul Nazeer, had issued the order that the registry not to entertain any intervention application in the Ayodhya case.

The Apex court also dismissed the intervention plea of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy in the heated issue.

On May 2, the Supreme Court even rejected to give an urgent hearing to a mentioning by Swamy, seeking a direction to perform puja at the disputed place at Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.
