On Wednesday, in the wake of anti-Sterlite protests in Thoothukudi's Anna Nagar, a fresh violence broke out in which one person was murdered and three are injured. According to the latest reports, in this latest incident, the death toll has reached to 12 in two days. 

Earlier today, after a bus was set on fire by the protesters, an additional security was deployed outside the Thoothukudi General Hospital. While on Tuesday, 11 people were killed and 65 plus were injured. The casualties took place during protests against the construction of a new copper smelter by the Sterlite industries.

The protest turned violent after protestors were blocked from marching up to the plant. Due to this they began to throw stones and toppled police transportations. By this act, the police officials resorted to lathi-charge and tear gas to disperse the crowd to contain the situation.

According to ANI, after the incident took place, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami declared an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakh for the family of the departed. Whereas Rs 3 lakh for the seriously injured and Rs 1 lakh for those who nursed minor injuries. He also announced government jobs for the family of the defunct.
