Transport Minister Thomas Chandy resigns for charges in Kerala land grab case

Thiruvananthapuram: Battling land grab accusation, Thomas Chandy resigned on Wednesday as Kerala's Transport Minister, hours after Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told that there was "no need to cogitated" on Chandy's resignation.

Chandy put forward his resignation to Vijayan through NCP leader TP Peethamabaran.

Talking to the media later, Peethamabaran told  the resignation letter had been handed over. "All the details will be informd to you at 2 pm."

This came after the Kerala High Court on Tuesday discarded Chandy's petition against the District Collector's report in Lake Palace Resort row and told that the minister should step down before appalling  the court.

Earlier this morning, Vijayan, told the issue of Chandy's resignation did not come up in the Cabinet meeting.

Chandy is the lone candidate of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Cabinet.

Vijayan had also downplayed a poser that he was spongy on Chandy, the richest contender in last year's Assembly Elections.
