Vice President of Zimbabwe calls on President Kovind

His Excellency General (Retd) Dr Constantino Chiwenga, the Vice President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, called on President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

Welcoming Dr Chiwenga to India, the President said that he was happy to receive him as a special envoy of the President of Zimbabwe. The President added India and Zimbabwe enjoy warm and special ties. With the change in the regime in Zimbabwe, India desires to continue friendly relations and further intensify engagement.

On India- India-Zimbabwe ties President said that India’s approach to its partnership with Africa is consultative and participatory.  It is driven by the aim of empowerment, capacity building, and human resource development, access to the Indian market and support for Indian investments in Africa.

The President informed that India-Zimbabwe bilateral trade of US $ 170 million is way below potential.  We need to work together to strengthen our trade and economic relations.  The Government of Zimbabwe’s policy to make it economical investor-friendly is appreciated. He said India is admiring of Zimbabwe’s recent endeavours. It will be happy to be part of Zimbabwe’s effort to re-engage with the international community.
