Violence, arson at Chennai's Satyabhama University after student committed suicide

Chennai: gigantic violence broke out at Chennai's Satyabhama University on Wednesday night after a student of the first year was found hanging in her hostel room.

Ragamonika, a student from Hyderabad allegedly hung herself after she was trapped to do cheating during an exam and then was purportedly embarrassed by her teacher.

Following the news of her death, the students of the college went on a rampage. Protests that began against her death turned violent with students turning to fire-raising. They put fire to material goods at a hostel building and smashed lights and electrical accessories, the college authorities have confirmed.

Visuals accessed by Students show a massive burst into flames inside the hostel building meant for students of the second and third year.

Security has been stepped up and around 200 police personnel have been arranged at the college.  The situation is at present under in command of.

The student’s dead body has been sent for post-mortem to Royapettah government hospital.
