Bus Carrying Security Personnel returning from election duty Overturns After Collision

A bus carrying 21 police and Home Guard personnel overturned after it collided with a truck in the Betul district of Madhya Pradesh in the early hours of Saturday. The bus was returning from election duty in Chhindwara and was heading to their home district, Rajgarh, when the accident occurred. Several security personnel were injured in the crash and were taken to Betul and Shahpur CHC hospitals for treatment. The accident happened around 4 a.m. near Baretha Ghat on the Bhopal-Betul highway, according to officials cited . Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Shalini Paraste reported that the bus was carrying 40 personnel in total, including five policemen and 35 Home Guard personnel. Eight individuals with serious injuries were treated at the district hospital in Betul, while those with minor injuries were treated at Shahpur Hospital.

The accident occurred when the bus swerved to avoid a truck that crossed its path. During the first phase of voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Chhindwara constituency in Madhya Pradesh recorded a 73.85% voter turnout by 5 p.m. The state overall recorded 63.25% voting across six constituencies. Chhindwara is a significant constituency in Madhya Pradesh, with Nakul Nath, the son of Congress leader and former state chief minister Kamal Nath, seeking re-election.
