President Ram Nath Kovind will give India's highest sports honor, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna title, as well as Arjun award, Dronacharya Award and Lifelong Dhyanchand Award today. The name of athletic coach Purushottam Rai has also been selected this year for the Dronacharya title, one of the highest sporting honors in the country. He died a few hours before receiving the title. Purushottam was 79 years old.

Also, he breathed his last in the evening a day before the award ceremony. Due to Corona, for the first time in the history of sports awards, the President will give the title from the Rashtrapati Bhavan through a virtual program. The same Purushottam Rai died of a heart attack. According to the statement of the Karnataka Athletics Association, 'Mr. Rai was a dedicated coach between the mid-1980s and the 1990s. He trained many national and international athletes.

He is the third person to receive this honor from Karnataka in athletics. Our condolences to his family. On Thursday, Purushottam was also part of the rehearsal of the honor program to be held on Sports Day. He was to receive the Dronacharya Award from the President. He has contributed extensively through coaching in Indian athletics for 20 years. Due to the award ceremony, he can be given a virtual tribute. With this, the country has lost another artist, and they will always live in our memories.
