Thiruvananthapuram: In a shocking case reported from Kerala's Wayanad district, a man allegedly killed himself and a woman by triggering an explosion from a device strapped to his body. Reports say that with 'Thotta', an improvised explosive used for fishing in the river -- strapped to his waist, this man embraced a woman, triggering an explosion that killed them both. The incident happened on Friday afternoon. The two deceased persons were identified as 38-year-old woman Amala and 48-year-old man Peringattel Benny.

Here it is to be noted that the police officials said that the incident occurred when Benny came to Amala's house at Naikkatti in Wayanad. According to a report in the Times of India (TOI), Benny was a family friend of Amala's husband Elavana Nazar, although, police officials are yet to confirm that whether he had a relationship with Amala or not. Reportedly, Sultan Bethery police told TOI that the blast occurred in the verandah of Nazar's house at around 1:30 pm while Nazar was out to a nearby mosque.

The TOI report further mentioned that Amala's five-year-old daughter was playing in the front of the house and she was also knocked unconscious by the blast. Although, she was not injured. Reportedly, no one else was injured in the incident. The local police told TOI that the explosion dismembered the bodies of the deceased. Though help arrived immediately in the form of people who were praying in a nearby mosque, they could not be saved. Reportedly, Nazar and Amala ran an Akshaya centre at Naikkatti. Amala is survived by her husband and three daughters and Benny is survived by his wife and two children. The blast site was investigated by forensic experts, bomb squad personnel and a dog.
