Kochi: Father Thomas Kottur and Sister Sephy have now been convicted for the murder by the CBI after a sensational murder that took place 28 years ago in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Both have also been found guilty of removing evidence. Punishment for both will be announced on Wednesday. The body of Sister Abhaya was found in a well of Pius X convent in Kottayam on 27 March 1992, almost 28 years ago. Father Jose Poothrikkayil was also made an accused in the case. However, he was later released by the CBI court while hearing his plea.

In this case, Thomas Kottur and Sister Sephy are accused that when Sister Abhaya had seen both in an objectionable condition, the accused then attacked Abhaya with a heavy weapon on his head. Due to this, she fainted. Sister Abhaya was thrown into the well in an unconscious state. After which she died. After this, an attempt was also made to make this murderous act of self-destruction.

During the investigation of the case, the CBI registered a case under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (removing evidence) of the Indian Penal Code. In these 28 years, statements of several witnesses, in this case, were recorded. Not only this, the narco-analyst test was also conducted for the clergy and nuns of the church. After this, the CBI had filed a charge sheet in the year 2009 on the basis of scientific evidence and narco test.
