After a long wait, the Delhi Transport Corporation is ready to embrace electric power with the arrival of the first prototype of an electric bus. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will flag off this electric bus, which might prove a big boost in the city's fight against pollution, according to Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot. According to the news agency PTI, DTC plans to buy up to 300 electric buses. Deliveries were supposed to start in November of last year, but they had to be postponed owing to a variety of issues, including the pandemic. However, the bigger objective is for roughly 3,500 electric DTC buses to operate throughout the city. This might have a positive impact on the usually bad air quality.

DTC now operates buses that run on biogas (CNG), which aren't as dirty as diesel-powered big vehicles but aren't precisely low-emissions. Many people have also mentioned how old these buses are. It's unclear whether the new electric buses will eventually replace some of the existing CNG vehicles. However, it will undoubtedly help Delhi achieve its goal of being India's EV leader. The DTC Board of Directors has given its approval to the purchase of 1,015 electric low-floor air-conditioned buses.

The transition to electric transportation has accelerated, with Delhi and numerous other states endorsing battery power as the way of the future. While the two- and three-wheeler categories are providing the most of the drive, manufacturers such as Hyundai and MG Motor India have announced plans for a more inexpensive EV to compete with Tata Motors, which currently has a monopoly on personal electric vehicles. With the government and commercial companies eyeing grander plans, infrastructure assistance is also essential.
